Not enough good works, like acts of human kindness or charity, can outweigh the bad we have done.
Facts God does not need our money or our attendance in church. What God wants is for us to be intimate or close with Him and accept the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. We should go to church in order to know more about God and become intimate with God. We should fol low God’s commandment, which is to love our neighbor like we love ourselves, and we give tithes to help others.
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace, you have been saved through faith. And this is not of your selves, for it is a gift of God. And this is not of works, so that no one may glory.
Decide Salvation is a gift and not a reward for doing good works. Going to church, giving tithes and doing good works will not “entitle” you to go to heaven. On the other hand, having an intimate relationship with God and accepting the Gift and Grace from God that Jesus died on the cross for us to save us will give us salvation. Becoming a new person after accepting Jesus Christ as our savior will make us generous in helping others and honest in what we do.
Personal Testimony Whenever I commit sins, I have always thought that I could just pay my way out through tithes and donations. The good deeds will offset the bad deeds that I do. In the stag party a few weeks before I got married, I was grilled and questioned. One of the question was what would I do if I found out my wife had an affair. My answer was that I would work on our marriage, find out what went wrong and try to save our marriage. When asked what would I do if I knew I was going to die tomorrow, I said nothing as I am always prepared to die. When asked what was my greatest fear was, I could not think of an answer. I was drunk then and the answer that came to my mind was to have a child that was abnormal. 4 years after that, I found out that my child has autism and will not have a nor mal life. That was a wake up call for me to repent for my ways and have a humble heart and accept help from God.
To do Do not have an entitlement mentality. God created us and we should act like employees of God. When you do your job, do you expect to be rewarded? Good works is a result of accepting Jesus into our lives and not the other way around.
